A Message From Our Chief Talent Officer

Welcome to Your American Cancer Society

When I first began working here with the American Cancer Society as chief talent officer in 2007, I was surprised to call people at all levels, in all geographies, across all functions, and hear voice mails saying “you have reached ‘Joe’ at Your American Cancer Society.” In retrospect, coming from a more corporate environment, I was not accustomed to work being so personal that the organization literally belonged to each employee and was offered to every single caller.

As we began to work on how we would talk about working and volunteering, we came up with the idea for the slogan you see on this page—“save lives, fulfill yours.” And these are not just words colored blue and set in a nice font. I have found, for myself, an organization as full of opportunity as pride and hope. This is genuinely a place where, together with our millions of supporters, we strive to save lives and create a world with more birthdays by helping you to stay well, by helping you get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back.

Your American Cancer Society is truly a work and volunteer environment that already belongs to you—all there is to do now is take the leap and look at the great employment and volunteer opportunities that await you. This organization offers more to you, its constituents, than you can imagine. I still learn every day about new programs and services. I still meet new people with incredible stories. I still renew, each time I walk through the door, my commitment to creating a world with more birthdays.

And now, when you reach my voice mail, you will hear a message that says “Hello, you have reached Laura Reeves, chief talent officer at Your American Cancer Society.” Because it is yours—whether you are a patient, a caregiver, a donor, or a potential employee or volunteer, this is your place to contribute—to save lives while fulfilling your own.

Laura Reeves
Your Chief Talent Officer
