Director of Cancer Information, American Cancer Society
Dr. Ades and her group of oncology medical professional staff are responsible for developing and maintaining the cancer information for the Society's various delivery channels including their National Cancer Information Center, Web site, patient education/consumer awareness materials, consumer books, and translations. She also provides clinical oversight to the Society' call center staff in Austin, Texas who responds to over 1.3 million calls each year.
Dr. Ades completed her doctoral degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Her research focused on health literacy needs of women and mammography decision-making.
She has presented to many groups on health literacy and is passionate about providing cancer-related information in a format and language that consumers can understand so they can make informed decisions about their health.
She is certified as an advanced practice oncology nurse and family nurse practitioner. She is adjunct faculty at Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory Healthcare where she continues in clinical practice in the Hematology Outpatient Clinic at Grady.
Dr. Ades is the author and editor of numerous cancer-related textbooks through her work with ACS. The most notable one is "A Cancer Source Book for Nurses" - now in its 8th edition and one that has been translated into multiple languages.
