Camp Catch-A-Rainbow - Free Summer Camp for Young Cancer Patients

Fresh air, new friends, and lots of camping fun is in store for children from Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio who take part in the Camp Catch-A-Rainbow program.

The American Cancer Society Great Lakes Division, Inc. services the residents of Indiana and Michigan and offers Camp Catch-A-Rainbow (CCAR), free of charge, to enrich the lives of children between four and fifteen years old who are being treated for cancer or who are in remission from cancer. A special one-day Young Campers Program is held for children ages four to six who may not enjoy an overnight camp-out, but still want to be part of the fun.

Camp Catch-A-Rainbow provides the opportunity for children to simply have a good time and enjoy the experience of exercise, recreation, and companionship through activities paced to meet the needs of kids with cancer. Campers enjoy swimming, archery, horseback riding, high adventure ropes courses, arts and crafts, canoeing, and much more.

Young Camper’s Day

A one-day program paced for younger children ages 4-6. Held in conjunction with Camp Catch-A-Rainbow, Young Camper’s Day takes place at the YMCA Storer Camps outside Jackson, Michigan on June 17, 2012.

Camp Catch-A-Rainbow

Camp Catch-A-Rainbow is held each year at the YMCA Storer Camps outside Jackson, Michigan for young cancer survivors ages 7-15. The 2012 season will take place June 17-22, 2012.

Registration deadline for Camp Catch-A-Rainbow is May 28, 2012.

Volunteer Health Care Professionals and Volunteer Counselors Needed

Staffed by volunteers, Camp Catch-A-Rainbow and Young Camper’s Day offer campers 24-hour access to health care professionals to meet their cancer care needs. Volunteer health care professionals are currently needed to act as cabin counselors to help meet the medical care needs of the participants. Volunteer positions are also available for general cabin counselors (male volunteers are especially needed). Volunteer application deadline is 5/11/2012.  Late applications may be accepted if positions are available and time permits for appropriate background checks and clearances.
