Patient Services in Wyoming

The following programs are offered free of charge by the American Cancer Society in Wyoming. Call your local American Cancer Society office to find out about availability in your area, or e-mail Bev Gross in our Cheyenne office.

Hospital Information Centers

The American Cancer Society of Wyoming has partnered with medical facilities in Casper and Gillette to host hospital information centers. The purpose of each center is to serve as a resource for the community, cancer patients and their families, and medical professionals. Both facilities house general information on cancer and American Cancer Society services.

The Casper center is located at Wyoming Medical Center at 1443 East 3rd Street. It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and can be reached by phone at 307-577-2970.

The Gillette center is located at Campbell County Memorial Hospital at 501 South Burma Avenue. It is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, or by appointment. The center can be reached by phone at 307-685-2575 or at 307-687-5229.

I Can Cope

I Can Cope is a patient and family cancer education program consisting of a series of classes. Doctors, nurses, social workers, and community representatives provide information about cancer and its treatment, as well as assistance in coping with the physical and emotional challenges of a cancer diagnosis. Patients, family members, and friends learn more about the disease and its treatment, become an informed part of the treatment team, and benefit from sharing experiences and strategies with others facing cancer.

Look Good...Feel Better

Look Good...Feel Better provides an opportunity for women undergoing cancer treatment to learn techniques to enhance their appearance and as a result, their self-image. The program focuses on beauty techniques and hair care that can help women cope with physical changes resulting from cancer treatment.

This program does not interfere with medical treatment or replace professional medical advice. It is designed to provide women with information to enhance their appearance during treatment. This free public service is held in partnership with the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation and the National Cosmetology Association.

Man To Man

The American Cancer Society sponsors an educational and support group for men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, their partners, and their families. Meetings are typically held monthly. Men and family members are encouraged to share their experiences. Meetings may also have a presentation by members of the medical community or other groups of interest.

The goals of the program are to provide accurate information about diagnosis and treatment options for prostate cancer, to provide support, encouragement, and solutions to common problems associated with the disease, and to promote awareness of prostate cancer as a major health care concern for all men.

Materials

The American Cancer Society makes available a number of free pamphlets and brochures to help cancer patients understand and cope with their disease. Topics include talking with the doctor, caring for the cancer patient at home, sexuality and cancer, and many more.

National Cancer Information Center

The National Cancer Information Center is a nationwide help line that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Specialists are prepared to answer myriad questions about cancer and related issues.

Reach To Recovery

Reach to Recovery is a visitation program for women with a personal concern about breast cancer. Trained volunteers who have experienced breast cancer provide information and support.

Reach to Recovery helps breast cancer patients meet the emotional and physical needs related to their disease and treatment. It is designed to work with the physician in helping breast cancer patients ask the right questions.

Road to Recovery

Road to Recovery provides transportation for cancer patients to treatment appointments. Volunteers drive patients to appointments and take them home when the appointment is completed. This program is designed to assist patients who have no transportation or may be too ill to drive, or who live where other local resources are unavailable.

Support Groups

The American Cancer Society can offer referrals to local support groups for individuals and families coping with cancer.

Wig Bank

American Cancer Society offices throughout Wyoming have a variety of free wigs available to cancer patients undergoing treatment.
