About Our Facility

Getting the right cancer care sometimes means traveling away from home, often to a cancer treatment facility in another city. The Winn Dixie Hope Lodge in Gainesville provides temporary residence for patients who travel to Gainesville-area cancer treatment centers for daily outpatient treatment.

At the Hope Lodge, cancer patients receive support from professionals, families, friends and other patients to help build the hope needed for their personal battle against cancer.

The Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge in Gainesville provides free, temporary housing for patients who travel to Gainesville for treatment. The 51,000 square foot building features 45 suites and two single guest rooms, kitchen, dining rooms, laundry and four TV lounges. Each guest suite features a sitting area, bedroom and private bath. The suites are equipped for two guests – a patient and a caregiver. Patients are responsible for general housekeeping, laundry and meals. The Hope Lodge does not provide medical care or treatment.

The Hope Lodge is located on four acres of beautiful grounds and features gardens, patios and picnic areas where residents can find peace or socialize with friends and family.

The Hope Lodge is a self-refer facility, and rooms are available on a first come, first served basis.

The Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge in Gainesville opened in 1986. Built on the University of Florida campus with a generous gift from Winn-Dixie employees, the Winn-Dixie Foundation and through contributions from community members, the Hope Lodge has housed more than 8,000 patients and caregivers. In 1992, a two-story, 18 suite addition was built, and in 2008, a renovation of the original space was completed.

At the Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge, American Cancer Society staff and volunteers are always there to help. Staff are onsite 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and our caring, compassionate volunteers are available every day of the week to ensure our guests have a great experience during their stay at the Hope Lodge.

The Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge in Gainesville is located two blocks south of Shands. It is located at
2121 S.W. 16th Street
Gainesville, FL 32608-1417

From I-75:
- Exit at #384 - Archer Road
- Turn west toward the University of Florida
- Continue past the large intersection at SW 34th Street - stay in the right lane
- Ease right onto SW 16th Avenue (Bartram Woods Apartment Complex)
- Continue approximately 1/2 mile to the intersection of SW 16th Avenue and SW 16th Street
- Turn right. The Hope Lodge is located at the end of the cul-de-sac.
- Turn left. Follow the arrow and park in the north lot.

From Hwy 441 (13th Street):
- Turn east onto SW 16th Avenue
- At first signal, turn south onto SW 16th Street
- Turn left. Drive straight ahead into the Hope Lodge Parking lot
