About Our Facility
Getting the right care sometimes means cancer patients must travel away from home. This can place an even bigger emotional and financial burden on patients and caregivers during an already challenging time. The American Cancer Society is trying to make this difficult situation easier for both cancer patients and their families through Hope Lodge.
The Hope Lodge provides free overnight lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers, creating an environment which eases both the stress of the cancer journey and the financial challenge of receiving lifesaving treatment. Hope Lodge is a place to share your meal, share in the evening’s activities or find peace in your own room.
The Hope Lodge in Lexington, Kentucky offers private rooms for the comfort of its guests and their caregivers. Fostering a home-like environment, the Hope Lodge is equipped with a community dining room, kitchen facility, library, and laundry facility. And, most importantly, the Hope Lodge offers encouragement and support from others going through the cancer journey.

Our History

In 1998, a Hope Lodge in Lexington was conceived by a long time volunteer and cancer survivor, Bill Robbins, after seeing other Hope Lodges in the country. A needs assessment was completed that uncovered the fact that almost 5,000 patients came from outlying areas to Lexington for cancer treatment. In 2002, a $6M capital campaign was begun after the land was secured at 1500 College Way and generously leased to the American Cancer Society from the University of Kentucky. In March of 2007 the doors opened to the 22nd Hope Lodge in the nation.
Many donors stepped up to make this dream a reality; among them a new foundation, the Lexington Cancer Foundation, Inc. For their generous contribution to the campaign, the Foundation chose to name the Lexington Cancer Foundation, Inc. Volunteer Center which houses the American Cancer Society volunteer meeting rooms, administrative offices and the Lexington Cancer Foundation offices. In addition the Foundation has provided operational funding since opening as well as volunteer support in the lodge.
In conjunction with the Lexington Cancer Foundation, Inc., the campus is named the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, Janice Jones Campus.
The American Cancer Society is indebted to all the volunteers and donors who have made this possible. The volunteer leaders in the capital campaign include Samuel G. Barnes, Alfred M. Cohen, Brent Rice and William G. (Bill) Robbins.
