About Our Facility
At Hope Lodge New York City, we understand that undergoing treatment for cancer can be a very daunting experience. For many, treatment at New York City's medical centers provides the greatest hope, but requires that they are far from home, adding the additional burden of travel and lodging expenses.
That is why the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Jerome L. Greene Family Center offers lodging at no cost for cancer patients being treated in Manhattan.

- large lounge with a fireplace and piano
- a family visitation room
- meditation space
- demonstration kitchen
- computer resource center (with internet access and printer)
- library
- outdoor terrace
Hope Lodge offers 60 private guest rooms in a home-like environment. Each guest floor includes a community kitchen and dining area, a quiet lounge and laundry facilities. Each guest room includes:

The environmentally friendly, “green” building provides a safe and welcoming atmosphere for our guests.
Our History

Anyone who has vacationed in Manhattan knows how expensive it can be. But what if your visit wasn’t a vacation. What if your loved one had to come for specialized, lifesaving treatment but you didn't have the cash to come and stay for weeks or months?
For years, the American Cancer Society received calls from families forced to sell their homes to get to New York for special treatments. We learned of caregivers who slept in hospital lobbies or cold cars. Many patients simply couldn’t afford to come at all. We worked hard to fill gaps and identify resources but it was never enough.
In 2001, the Eastern Division Board of Directors and leadership staff embarked on the largest patient services project in our history—building a new 60-room facility to serve Hope Lodge in Manhattan one of the most expensive real estate markets in the nation.
The $50 million campaign resulted in the nation’s largest Hope Lodge, a 60-room eco-friendly facility that has served hundreds of guests since it opened. In 2007, a $10 million gift from the Jerome L. Greene Foundation, several seven-figure gifts, and many other major donors helped make the dream a reality.
