The AstraZeneca Hope Lodge is available for adults receiving outpatient cancer treatment who live more than 40 miles away from their treatment center. Preference will be given to those who require a three-day or longer stay in that area for their treatment. Patients must be able to care for themselves and have a suitable adult caregiver who will stay with them.

Have a permanent residence and will provide the Hope Lodge upon arrival with a copy of driver’s license or other proof of residence (utility bill, state ID card, etc.) if requested

Agree to stay at the Hope Lodge only between the start and end date for treatment as specified on the referral form

Not currently under parole for a felony charge, and have not been convicted of a felony in the past 5 years

Agree to be admitted no sooner than one day prior to treatment initiation and will vacate the Lodge no later than 24 hours following completion of treatment
Caregivers at Hope Lodge
The role of caregiver requires many levels of care, and it is imperative that each person assigned to be a caregiver meets the following requirements while staying at Hope Lodge:
Physical: Caregiver must actually be present.
Doorman/bellhop: Take belongings to and from room and car.
Housekeeper: Clean up after patient. Keep room clean during stay.
Cook: Provide sufficient proper meals for patient and self.
Nurse: Follow detailed hospital instructions for caring for patient.
Secretary: Fill out and handle paperwork
Emotional: Maturity in special situations
First Responder: Locate contact numbers (doctor, nurse, Lodge staff) if an emergency situation arises.
Caregivers also must be able to accept differences in people staying at Hope Lodge who come from all over the world, from all walks of life, and with many different backgrounds.
To stay at the Hope Lodge, you must be referred by your Philadelphia area physician or health care professional. The Hope Lodge staff will coordinate with your health care professional to put your name on our waiting list. It is advisable to initiate the referral process well in advance of the first date of treatment, as patients are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Is there a set time period on how long I can stay at the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge?
No, there is no time limit. As long as you are receiving treatment, you are welcome to remain at the Lodge as our guest. Residents may remain at the Hope Lodge for an additional 24 hours following their last cancer treatment.
Does the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge have wireless capabilities?
At this time, it is unknown if the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge will have wireless access available to residents.
Are meals served?
Residents are responsible for purchasing their own food and preparing their own meals.
Is there a charge to stay at the Lodge?
No. Staying at the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge is free of charge thanks to the generosity of donors.
How do I handle house cleaning?
Residents are responsible for cleaning up after themselves in all areas of the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge.
Are there laundry facilities?
Yes. Laundry rooms are located on all three floors. Residents are responsible for all personal laundry.
Are there social activities at the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge?
The AstraZeneca Hope Lodge plans to offer various social activities during the week.
How many people can stay in a room?
Two people can stay in a room: the patient and the caregiver.
Are children allowed?
Residents of the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge must be at least 18 years of age.
Is transportation available?
Yes. Shuttle transportation will be provided to various area treatment locations.
What should I bring (toilet paper, paper towels, linens, etc.)?
You should bring any personal belongings that will make your room feel more like home. The AstraZeneca Hope Lodge will provide cleaning supplies, paper products, bath towels, hand towels, washcloths and bedding in every room.
What are the hours of operation?
The Hope Lodge office hours of operation will be from 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. daily.
Can residents eat in the rooms?
No. Food and beverages are not allowed in individual rooms.
Is there a telephone in the room with voice mail?
Yes, there will be a telephone with voice mail in every room.
The AstraZeneca Hope Lodge offers free transportation to and from treatment Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., free laundry facilities, and kitchen facilities.
In addition to these practical services, the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge will be offering various programs to help guests learn how to manage the physical, emotional and practical challenges cancer brings.
