About Our Facility
The first six bedroom Hope Lodge casita opened in early September 2009 and is available on a first come, first served basis. To learn more about reserving your stay at Hope Lodge and the eligibility requirements, please call our Patient Services Department at 1-866-500-3272.
The Hope Lodge features:
• Three "casitas," each with six mini-apartments.
• Shared living, kitchen, and dining facilities in each casita in which residents can come together to offer mutual support and understanding.
• Guest rooms with a sitting area, two queen-size beds, and a private bath.
• A shared "community center," which will house administrative services, offer a large gathering space for guests, and feature a game room, library, business center and laundry facilities.
• Convenient shuttle service to and from Mayo Hospital, with transportation to other Valley cancer centers provided by American Cancer Society volunteers.
A Compelling Community Need
Despite the many advances made in recent years, being diagnosed with cancer is an emotionally and often financially devastating experience. Many of those diagnosed with cancer are not able to continue to earn money during treatment, jeopardizing the financial stability of the lives they and their families have built. Money they would have used to pay their rent or mortgage is often used for treatments and hotel accommodations instead. With some treatments lasting months, this places additional stress on the cancer patient as they worry whether they will have a home and a life to return to once they have completed treatment. Often, spouses and caregivers must maintain a stable income during the cancer patient’s treatment. This separates the survivor and their family when they most need each other and threatens their support system. Hope Lodge® provides support to both patient and caregiver.
With just two Ronald McDonald House facilities, six rooms for families and caregivers of out-of-town patients available at Banner Good Samaritan, and limited free rooms that the American Cancer Society is able to arrange with hotels through the Society's Patient Lodging Program, there are not enough "hospitality beds" specific to the needs of cancer patients receiving treatment in the Phoenix metro area for days or weeks at a time. From July 2007 to June 2008, the American Cancer Society coordinated 1,309 nights of free lodging at partner hotels in the Phoenix area for 175 cancer patients and caregivers from 12 states, some from as far away as Alaska, Idaho, South Carolina and Massachusetts. Space is limited though, especially during peak tourist seasons, and the American Cancer Society is simply unable to accommodate all of the requests for Phoenix-area lodging it receives.
There are dedicated staff and volunteers who are available to assist you at the Hope Lodge of North Phoenix. They are committed to providing a caring and supportive environment for guests and their loved ones. Their goal is to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Many people, organizations, hospitals and friends are needed to make the operation of Hope Lodge possible. Future opportunities for your organization, group or business to join the volunteer staff of the Hope Lodge of North Phoenix will soon be available.
The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® North Phoenix is located at The Village at Mayo Clinic, 5811 E. Mayo Blvd, Phoenix, Arizona 85054.
You can enter from 56th Street by turning at the Child Care Center and following the signs that read "Village at Mayo Clinic". We are located in the far Southeast corner of the Mayo Clinic Hospital campus.

How do I learn more about the Hope Lodge?

Is there a set time period on how long I can stay at the Hope Lodge?
There is no limit on the number of nights a patient can stay in a Hope Lodge. For those days you are in active treatment you are welcome to stay at Hope Lodge. If your treatments are scheduled at widely-spaced intervals, you will be asked to maintain another residence for those intervals between your treatments
Are meals served?
Residents are responsible for purchasing their own food and preparing their own meals.
Is there a charge to stay at the Lodge?
No. Staying at the Hope Lodge is free of charge thanks to the generosity of donors.
How do I handle house cleaning?
Residents are responsible for cleaning up after themselves in all areas of the Hope Lodge.
Are there laundry facilities?
Non-personal laundry services (bed linen and towels) are provided at check-in. Guests are responsible for doing their own laundry throughout their stay at Hope Lodge.
Are there social activities at the Hope Lodge?
The Hope Lodge plans to offer various social activities during the week. A community atmosphere is an important part of the Hope Lodge experience!
How many people can stay in a room?
Two people can stay in a room: the patient and the caregiver.
Are children allowed?
Residents of the Hope Lodge must be at least 18 years of age.
Is transportation available?
Yes. Shuttle transportation and/or volunteer drivers will provide rides to various area treatment locations.
What should I bring (toilet paper, paper towels, linens, etc.)?
You should bring any personal belongings that will make your room feel more like home. The Hope Lodge will provide cleaning supplies, paper products, bath towels, hand towels, washcloths and bedding in every room.
What are the hours of operation?
Check-in, registration, and orientation for new guests will be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis, in rare circumstances.
Can residents eat in the rooms?
No. Food and beverages are not allowed in individual rooms but there is a common kitchen and dining area in each casita.
Will I have computer access at the Hope Lodge?
A free wireless Internet connection will be available in the casitas. Guests will need to provide their own computers.
Is there a telephone in the room with voice mail?
Yes, there will be a telephone with voice mail in every room.
