Extending Our Reach through Diverse Collaborations

The American Cancer Society collaborates with organizations to fight cancer in every community. We work to:

  • Increase cancer awareness and educate people about steps they can take to stay well.
  • Provide resources to guide people through every step of the cancer experience so they can focus on getting well.
  • Fund and conduct research on cancer disparities and how we can overcome them.
  • Engage communities worldwide to join the fight against cancer by participating in our events and working with legislators to pass laws to defeat cancer.

Together, we save lives and help people in every community celebrate more of life’s milestones – like birthdays.

To accomplish this important work, we connect with various organizations to help us deliver our lifesaving messages. The American Cancer Society is engaged on local levels in communities across the country. Nationally, we are currently collaborating with the following organizations:

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Zeta Phi Beta was established to promote the cause of education by the highest standards of scholarship through scientific, literary, cultural, and educational programs on college campuses and within the community. With a membership of 125,000 college-educated, professional women in more than 800 communities throughout the United States, the Virgin Islands, Japan, Korea, Germany, and West Africa, Zeta Phi Beta is a nonprofit, community-conscious organization that provides outreach programs and support to community empowerment programs through scholarship and information.

American Cancer Society Collaboration Includes:

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Alpha Phi Alpha has supplied a voice and vision to the struggle of African Americans and people of color around the world. The fraternity has stood at the forefront of the community's fight for civil rights, through Alpha men such as civil rights activists Martin Luther King Jr. and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and politicians Andrew Young and David Dinkins. Through its college and alumni chapters, the fraternity serves the community through nearly 1,000 chapters in the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.

American Cancer Society Collaboration Includes:

  • Fighting back by engaging community members to work with lawmakers on legislative issues activities of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), the Society’s nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate, focused on colon cancer; prostate cancer; and other national, state, and local interests
  • Engaging Alpha Phi Alpha collegiate chapters to participate in the American Cancer Society Colleges Against Cancer® nationwide program
  • Helping members stay well by providing information about steps they can take to prevent or reduce their risk of cancer and live healthier lives

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Phi Beta Sigma is an international organization comprised of 150,000 college-educated men focusing on issues that impact the youth and our communities. Through its national mentoring program for males ages 8-18, the organization provides opportunities for the development of young men as they prepare for college and the workforce. The organization's collaboration with the American Cancer Society speaks to its mission to address societal ills, including health disparities and educational and developmental opportunities for young males.

American Cancer Society Collaboration Includes:

  • Engaging communities to fight back against cancer by recruiting Phi Beta Sigma alumni and undergraduate chapters to participate in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life National NON-Corporate Team Program
  • Fighting back by engaging Phi Beta Sigma members to work with lawmakers on legislative issues and to support the advocacy efforts of American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)
  • Helping members stay well by promoting Sigma Wellness: Brother to Brother, a co-branded manual to help men lead healthier lives and reduce their risk of cancer

Supreme Lodge Knights of Pythias

The Supreme Lodge Knights of Pythias is an international, non-sectarian fraternal order with a mission dedicated to the cause of universal peace and upholding the principles of friendship, charity, and benevolence. The Knights of Pythias are comprised of 41 Domains and more than 2,000 Lodges located throughout the United States, Canada, Italy, and France.

American Cancer Society Collaboration Includes:

  • Engaging members to fight back against cancer by participating in American Cancer Society Relay For Life events and to help people facing cancer get well by supporting American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® facilities
  • Helping members stay well by providing steps they can take to prevent cancer, detect the disease early, and live healthier lives
