How many people get liver cancer?

The American Cancer Society's estimates for primary liver and bile duct cancers in the United States for 2013 are:

• About 30,640 new cases of primary liver cancer and bile duct cancer
• About 21,670 deaths from these cancers

This cancer is more common in men than in women. The average age when liver cancer is found is 62.

This cancer is much more common in countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia than in the United States. In many of these countries it is the most common type of cancer.
