Alvaro Carrascal, MD, MPH

Vice President, Health Systems, American Cancer Society Eastern Division


Dr. Carrascal is responsible for leading and overseeing the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of cancer control initiatives in New York and New Jersey. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, cancer prevention interventions (i.e., policy and environmental interventions to reduce tobacco consumption and other risk factors for cancer), cancer screening and early diagnosis, services to newly diagnosed cancer patients and families, survivorship and quality of life issues, public and provider education, interventions to address cancer disparities, and more.

 

Before coming to ACS, Dr. Carrascal worked for more than 20 years in the field of HIV/AIDS and in his previous position he served as the director of the division of HIV and Hepatitis Health Care at the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute. He is also an assistant professor at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health at SUNY Albany. He received his medical degree from Universidad Ind. de Santander (Bucaramanga, Colombia), and his masters in public health from Columbia University School of Public Health.
