A practicing oncologist and cancer researcher, Dr. Khuri conducted lung cancer basic research and clinical trials for more than 18 years. He focuses his research and clinical interests on the development of new therapeutic approaches for lung cancer. His career-long commitment to evidence-based, biologically informed medicine has led to a number of reserach projects to develop molecularly targeted therapy for lung and aerodigestive cancer prevention and treatment. HIs teams have developed prognostic models for stage I non-small cell lung cancer and have conducted phase I, II, and III studies to determine the effectiveness of several different agents on lung and head and neck cancers.
In addition to his other roles, Dr. Khuri is leader of the Cancer Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Program, Winship Cancer Institute; associate dean for translational research, Emory University School of Medicine; and editor-in-chief of the CANCER journal, published by the American Cancer Society. He has more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and presents lectures at institutions and conferences across the country and internationally.
Dr. Khuri holds an MD from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Yale University. He fulfilled his residency at Boston University and performed a fellowship at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.
