The American Cancer Society is pleased to announce the availability of the 2008 Strategic Plan Progress Report. This report presents the Society’s and the larger cancer community’s significant achievements and measurable progress toward the Society's strategic plan, 2015 goals, and nationwide objectives. In addition, the report calls attention to challenge areas that will require additional attention in the future.
Significant progress is being made in mortality reduction in the major cancer sites, as death rates continue to decline for colorectal cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer and breast cancer. The mortality trends highlighted in this year’s report demonstrate that if we are successful at transferring existing knowledge about cancer prevention and control into everyday, community-level practice, we will make a difference in the number of lives saved from cancer in the years to come.
The 2008 report also includes sections chronicling the Society’s work in the area of global cancer control, progress toward income development goals, and a final chapter which illustrates the historical change in our outcome statements from 1996 to August 2008. 2008 Strategic Plan Progress Report
