Significant progress is being made in mortality reduction in the major cancer sites, as death rates continue to decline for colorectal cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer and breast cancer. The mortality trends highlighted in this year’s report demonstrate that if we are successful at transferring existing knowledge about cancer prevention and control into everyday, community-level practice, we will make a difference in the number of lives saved from cancer, and the number of additional birthdays celebrated, in the years to come.
