Volunteer Testimonials:

"To volunteer at Camp Hope is to witness the power of positive thinking in action. While medical advances continually show the road to a cure, the energy and commitment for 'those last few miles home' are paved through the hearts and courage of the Camp Hope campers."

–John Dobson, former camper and current volunteer

"Camp Hope rocks because you'll make friends that last a lifetime! I still have friends from camp that I met over 19 years ago. We still send each other emails and talk on the phone throughout the year. The week at camp is jam-packed with fun from the moment the campers arrive! I start looking forward to the next camp the week after the current one ends. Well, maybe there's a day or two buffer, but I still get excited soon after it's over!"

–Jeremy Hazzard, former camper and current volunteer

"Going to Camp Hope each year keeps me focused on what is really important in life. I can't imagine what some of these kids go through and to be able to spend a week with them, watching them laugh and have fun, is something I can't put into words."

–Patty Stuever, volunteer

"This was my first year volunteering at Camp Hope and it won't be my last! I found out about camp through a friend who was a camper and is now a volunteer. He told me that it would change my life...he was absolutely right! Camp Hope was awesome – great campers, fantastic cooks, outstanding facilities, and unbelievable volunteers – you couldn't ask for a better camp experience. Most of all, there is something special about Camp Hope that really makes it memorable, and that is the kids! These kids have gone through one of life's hardest battles and to see them having the time of their lives with other kids that have experienced what they've gone through is one of the most gratifying things that I've experienced. Camp Hope now holds a part of me and will for a long time to come."

–John Cannon, volunteer

"The best part of camp is, without a doubt, the kids – their smiles, laughter, and maturity. I volunteer to help the kids, yet I always leave camp with a renewed sense of hope and life, which comes from the kids, and what they do for their fellow campers, the volunteers, and me. In my opinion, Camp Hope is the toughest vacation you'll ever love."

–Catherine Brown, volunteer

"When people comment to me on how wonderful it is for me to volunteer at Camp Hope, I'm quick to point out that I always receive much more than I give. The campers provide such tremendous lessons in courage, inspiration, perseverance, and positive attitudes. In my 23 years as a volunteer, when camp is over I always come home grateful for the opportunity to be around these wonderful kids."

–Sue Lunsford, volunteer

"Here's a short version of what I think about Camp Hope –
Dinner at Jack's Stack BBQ: $20
Chief's ticket: $79
Camp Hope experience: Priceless
There is no amount of money I could donate to a cause that would equal the experience I have volunteering at Camp Hope. I cannot believe how brave these kids are. To be a part of a place where they can go and truly be themselves, to see the joy on their faces and know that I am a part of that laugh or smile, is priceless."

–Cathy Fuchs, volunteer

"This was my first year at Camp Hope and I have to say that it is one of the most magical places I have been. The combination of the wonderful kids, the energetic and caring staff, and the support of the entire community all make the camp the special place that it is. Thanks to the incredible line up of activities and the positive energy of the staff and volunteers, camp is fun and upbeat, from the singing at the breakfast table to the campers' late-night chats and giggles with their bunk-mates. I am already looking forward to next year!"

–Katie Mourning, M.D., volunteer
