The American Cancer Society needs volunteers with safe driving skills to bring cancer patients to and from local medical facilities. You could have three things that potentially could save a life: a driver’s license, a vehicle, and a few spare hours. You will complete an orientation and simple training program.
“As a Road to Recovery driver, I am able to help some of the thousands of cancer patients who need help getting to treatment. Just a small amount of my time helps make a real difference in the lives of people who are coping with cancer. I make sure they get to the doctor, but I also make sure they know someone cares." – Road to Recovery Volunteer
“I don’t have family in the area, so without Road to Recovery, I would not have been able to make most of my appointments. Road to Recovery volunteers helped me beat cancer by making sure I got the treatments that saved my life." – Road to Recovery Patient
This volunteer opportunity is designed to be an easy and stress-free service for both cancer patients and volunteers. We’re flexible! Let us know when you can help and we’ll match a volunteer opportunity to fit your schedule. Training sessions, maps, and directions are provided. Cancer treatment appointments take place on weekdays, primarily during business hour.
Do you need a ride to cancer treatment?
Road to Recovery is a free service. Patients do not need a physician’s referral, but advance notice is required. To schedule a ride, call 1.800.227.2345.
If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a volunteer driver, or needs a ride to cancer treatment, please contact the American Cancer Society at 1.800.ACS(227).2345 or contact your local American Cancer Society office.
