Ohio Division Supported Research Pilot Grants
Pilot grant application closed until August 2009

These pilot grants are intended for beginning investigators and independent faculty members at formative stages in their careers for the purpose of pursuing the field of cancer research. Potential applicants are encouraged to submit hypothesis-driven proposals that have the potential to lead to future national funding. See the below Fact Sheet and read eligibility criteria in the Application and Instructions. Proposals must be postmarked by April 8.

Ohio Division Supported Research Pilot Grants
2009 Program Information

Grant purposeTo encourage beginning investigators to enter the field of cancer research and enable them to accumulate data that will lead to future funding by national granting agencies and life-long pursuit/interest in cancer research.
Program intent
  • Designed for applications supporting clinical research or laboratory corollary studies of clinical research; epidemiologic research; cancer control and behavioral research.
  • Designed for junior faculty on track to become researchers; established faculty on new research track; independent scientists (not post-doctorate training program).
  • Hypothesis-driven applications focused on a discrete problem of cancer are most suited to the criteria.
Applicant eligibility
  • U.S. citizen, non-citizen national or permanent resident
  • Applicants throughout all counties in Ohio
  • Applicants with significant ($100K+) national funding or ACS institutional awards are not eligible
  • Not intended for bridge funding to ease post doctorate into faculty position
Maximum grant request and funding levelsFunding levels are up $30,000, depending on funding available (10% cap for overhead and appropriate fringe benefits)
Proposal formatInstructions provided: Original with signed cover letter plus 10 identical copies as well as CD ROM with one PDF containing all parts of the application, relevant publications, and letters of support
Selection process
  • Competitive process via peer review committee
  • Grant awards are strongly tied to the Pilot Research leading to national funding for continuation of the project.
Payment schedule50% up front; 50% following mid-term report
