Overview: Laryngeal and Hypopharyngeal Cancer
Can Laryngeal and Hypopharyngeal Cancer Be Prevented?

Most of these cancers can be prevented. The best way to do this is to avoid risk factors such as smoking and alcohol abuse, and to use safe work habits if you are around cancer-causing chemicals.

Poor diet and not enough vitamins have been linked to these cancers. The best thing to do for this is to eat a healthy, balanced diet rather than depending on vitamin pills. The American Cancer Society recommends eating the following:

  • at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day
  • whole grain breads, cereals, pastas, rice, and beans
  • fewer red meats and processed meats (such as hot dogs, sausage, and lunch meat)
