The American Cancer Society is currently exploring virtual volunteer opportunities in Second Life, a 3-D virtual community.
What is Second Life?
Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown
explosively and today is inhabited by almost 8 million people from around the globe.
How has the Society engaged volunteers through Second Life?
The American Cancer Society first reached out to virtual volunteers through the Second Life Relay For Life in 2005, and
continues to empower these volunteers through a virtual Second Life office, opening in the summer of 2007.
Why is volunteering for Second Life so important?
Second Life volunteers have the ability to reach out to millions of people all over the world, sharing the Society’s mission and
advocating for those touched by cancer.
Please check back soon for updates on emerging volunteer opportunities in this area.
