Look Good...Feel Better for Teens

What it is

Program

Look Good...Feel Better for Teens is a unique, free program for teenage cancer patients ages 13 to 17. It helps them cope with how cancer treatment and side effects can change the way they look. The program addresses the needs of both boys and girls. It includes tips on skin care, hair, and makeup, plus information about nutrition, exercise, fitness, and teen social issues.

Web site

Look Good...Feel Better for Teens has a Web site called 2bMe that is available to all teens with cancer. The interactive, information-packed Web site covers skin care, head coverings, makeup, fitness, nutrition, and social issues. It has tips for dealing with friends, fatigue, activities, school, and looking your best through it all. The Web site can be found at www.2bMe.org.

Group activities

Look Good...Feel Better for Teens is also offered as a group workshop in 18 hospital locations that treat teens with cancer. Both male and female participants are invited to the 2 hour program. It includes both presentations and interactive sessions. Each part is led by certified program volunteers who have gone through special training. Professional cosmetology volunteers lead sessions on skin care, makeup, and options related to hair loss. Volunteer health care professionals lead nutrition, fitness, and social life sessions. In the group session, each teen gets a free kit of personal care items, donated by the cosmetic industry, for use during and after the program. A take-home guide with complete information on program topics is also provided.

Costs

Look Good...Feel Better for Teens programs are always free. They do not promote any cosmetic, personal care product, or manufacturer, and do not offer any medical advice.
