Introduction

Immunotherapy is now regarded by some oncologists as the "fourth modality," or fourth way to treat cancer. Immunotherapy is treatment to stimulate your own natural defenses of your immune system to fight cancer. In this section you'll learn how the different cells of the immune system work to protect you from disease; the different types of immunotherapy (cancer vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, and nonspecific immunotherapies and adjuvants); and what immunotherapy is available for specific cancers.
