Immunotherapy is treatment that uses your immune system to
fight cancer. The 2 main ways that this is done is to boost the
patient's own immune system or to give man-made versions of the normal
parts of the immune system. Many future advances against cancer will
probably come from this field.
Here we will explain:
- the different cells of the immune system and how they
normally work to protect you from disease
- the different types of immunotherapy (monoclonal
antibodies, cancer vaccines, non-specific immunotherapies and adjuvants
[immune stimulants])
- the forms of immunotherapy used for certain types of cancer
