Food Guide Pyramid for Children

The food guide pyramid shows you how to make food choices for a healthy diet. The pyramid divides foods into 6 major food groups: grains, vegetables, fruits, oils, milk, and meat and beans. You can learn more about the pyramid and get help using it for your child based on his or her age at www.mypyramid.gov. At this Web site you can also find a menu planner and a tracking tool to help you look at what your child is eating and see whether he or she is getting enough of each food group to meet his or her needs. Keep in mind that your child's needs may be different from those in the food pyramid guide at this time. Talk to your doctor, nurse, or dietitian about your child's nutrition needs at this time and how to best meet them.
