New York, NY and Atlanta, GA 2000/12/28 - The American Cancer Society (ACS) and
Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) are pleased to announce that LWW has
been selected to publish CA - A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, a
peer-reviewed oncology journal of the American Cancer Society, for a contract
period of four years.
In 1999, when the Society decided to increase the size of the journal from
its original digest dimensions to a standard 8 ? x 11" format and to enhance its
content, a "request for proposal" was issued to potential publishers. LWW, which
has published the digest-size journal for 10 years, was ultimately selected from
among several bidders as publisher for the "new" CA.
In addition to the increased size, CA has been completely redesigned
for a fresher look and easier readability. As of the January/February 2001
issue, new sections, columns, and features will be added to enhance the
journal’s appeal to its broad target readership. New features will include, for
example, media coverage on cancer topics, cancer control tips derived from each
issue’s feature article, information on complementary and alternative cancer
treatment methods, and a column on environmental carcinogens.
CA, the flagship journal of the ACS for 50 years, has published
original review articles on all aspects of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and
prevention as a professional educational service of the ACS. In addition to
cancer specialists, CA counts among its 150,000-plus readers, primary
care clinicians, specialists in many medical disciplines, nurses, pharmacists,
medical residents and fellows, and students, as well as dentists, social
workers, and therapists.
CA is among the top cited oncology journals in the world, and has
offered a free full-text version of each issue online at its Web site since 1996. Also
beginning in January 2001, the CA Web site will be hosted on the newly
redesigned ACS Web site, www.cancer.org.
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary
health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by
preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through
research, education, advocacy, and service.
