Medicare Part D: What People With Cancer Need to Know About the Prescription Drug Benefit
The Medicare prescription drug benefit, or Medicare Part D, became available to all people on Medicare (Medicare beneficiaries) on January 1, 2006. The drug benefit is optional. If you do decide to take part in the program the open enrollment period is November 15th - December 31st, and you must enroll in one of the Medicare private drug plan options available in your area.
