Let's Talk About It (LTAI) is a free community-based program developed by the American Cancer Society and 100 Black Men of America to increase awareness and knowledge of prostate cancer among African-American men. One of the Society’s nationwide objectives is to reduce the number of cases of prostate cancer and deaths from prostate cancer because:
- Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in African-American men
- African-American men are twice as likely to get the disease in their early 50s
than are other American men
- African-American men are twice as likely to die of the disease than are other American men.
This program provides to communities easy, step-by-step ways to organize prostate cancer awareness events to empower African-American men and their loved ones to reduce their risk of prostate cancer and make informed decisions about detecting and treating the disease. LTAI can take place in any venue and can be a one-time event or an ongoing community effort. Some examples of venues include the faith community, social clubs, 100 Black Men of America local meetings, and workplaces. For more information about prostate cancer, or to find out how to hold a Let's Talk About It event in your community, contact your local American Cancer Society or call us toll-free at 1-800-ACS-2345.
