The Cancer Crisis in India Is Rising Because . . .

  • too many Indians don’t understand that cancer is largely preventable and treatable with early detection. They need access to information to prevent and fight this dreaded disease.
  • too many Indians lack access to lifesaving cancer services such as early detection and treatment.
  • too many Indians still use tobacco. India has an alarmingly high rate of tobacco use among children, college students, and adults.

What Can Be Done?

The India Cancer Initiative provides expert trainings, technical assistance and funding to launch programs that increase cancer awareness and help build the health care capacity to fight cancer most effectively. To do this, the India Cancer Initiative develops strong collaborations with local Indian organizations to educate and empower cancer patients, survivors, families, and communities across India. Mobilizing physicians, cancer survivors and their families is a powerful tool in the fight against cancer.

If connected to a broader network, committed individuals such as these can become powerful cancer advocates who can make a long-lasting, positive impact on their communities, and ultimately, save lives.
