Health Promotion for Staff
Opportunities for school staff to improve their health status through activities such as health assessments, health education and health-related fitness activities.
School-site health promotion for staff or school staff wellness programs help faculty and staff stay healthy and serve as examples for students. School staff wellness programs raise awareness and motivate staff to get involved in health-promoting activities. Teachers who feel well are more energetic, are absent less often, and help to establish a more positive, optimistic climate at school. When teachers are absent less often, schools save money because they do not need to pay for as many substitutes. Teachers who feel good about themselves are less likely to leave the teaching profession, thereby reducing costly staff turnover. Sometimes union contracts require districts to provide services to support staff health.
