Relay For Life of Second Life
What is Second Life?
Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by more than 15 million people from around the globe.
How has the Society engaged volunteers through Second Life?
The American Cancer Society first reached out to virtual volunteers through the Relay For Life in Second Life in 2005, and continues to empower these volunteers through a Second Life virtual office which opened on ACS ISland in June 2007. Since 2005, the American Cancer Society has raised more than $950,000 in Second Life.
Why is volunteering for Second Life so important?
Second Life volunteers have the ability to reach out to millions of people all over the world, sharing the Society’s mission and advocating for those touched by cancer.
