Relay For Life of Second Life

Sylis Luminaria

What is Second Life?

Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by more than 15 million people from around the globe.

How has the Society engaged volunteers through Second Life?

The American Cancer Society first reached out to virtual volunteers through the Relay For Life in Second Life in 2005, and continues to empower these volunteers through a Second Life virtual office which opened on ACS ISland in June 2007.  Since 2005, the American Cancer Society has raised more than $2 million in Second Life.

Why is volunteering for Second Life so important?

Second Life volunteers have the ability to reach out to millions of people all over the world, sharing the Society’s mission and advocating for those touched by cancer.

If you already have an avatar and are a resident of the virtual world, Second Life, please contact Jeffrey Montegut at jeffrey.montegut@cancer.org if you have any questions.  If you're a skilled builder let us know so we can give you some projects in the SL community. In-world you can IM Nikki Mathieson, Dawnbeam Dreamscape, or Random Padar Darrow for information.

To donate using your credit card please visit RelayForLife.org/SecondLife. You can donate Linden dollars in Second Life® using several methods; official RFLofSL kiosks, Team Vendor Cards or virtual Luminaries at the event.
