SpeakOut Youth Intiative in Washington State
The SpeakOUT Youth Initiative provides opportunities for youth (age 14-18) to gain leadership training, practice advocacy skills and receive recognition when they “speak out” against cancer. SpeakOUT participants learn how to influence real-world issues that make a difference in saving lives, through individual power and the spirit of working together.
SpeakOUT Activities
• SpeakOUT Workshops – Workshops focus on assisting both youth leaders and their adult advisors in building strong youth coalitions that work to prevent cancer through tobacco education, nutrition, physical activity and school health advocacy. The hands-on workshops are implemented in local communities throughout Washington State.
• SpeakOUT Summer Summit – An annual advanced youth leadership training where participants learn how to mobilize their peers and communities around issues of tobacco prevention, nutrition, physical activity and school health advocacy in a fun and interactive environment.
• SpeakOUT Community Action Grants – Community Action Grants provided financial opportunities for youth to put their innovative activity ideas into action.
The SpeakOUT Youth Initiative is supported by the Washington State Department of Health Tobacco Prevention and Control Program
