About The American Cancer Society Clarence T. C. Ching Hope Lodge Hawai‘i Facility

Giving Hope a Home

American Cancer Society Hawai‘i Pacific recognizes the need of the healthcare community for the construction of a 19-bedroom, centrally-located Hope Lodge in Honolulu. This Hope Lodge will add to the network of 31 Hope Lodges in operation across the United States today.

At full occupancy, Hope Lodge Hawai‘i will result in over $1,310,715 in savings to cancer patients per year by providing up to 6,935 free room nights. With more than 650 cancer patients and their caregivers from the neighbor islands and Guam needing to travel to Honolulu for necessary cancer treatment, especially those who otherwise would not be able to afford lodging and travel, they will now have a place available for them to heal.

A 60-year charitable land lease at 241-B & 251 Vineyard Street has been provided by The Queen’s Medical Center and The Queen Emma Land Company. Hope Lodge Hawai‘i will be three stories tall and contain 22,311 square feet of occupied space on its footprint.

The vision to “Give Hope a Home“ will require a significant fundraising effort.

The Hope Lodge Hawai‘i campaign goal is $11.6 million to build and sustain the facility. A campaign cabinet has been formed, co-chaired by Lawrence Tseu, DDS, and James K. Schuler. It is anticipated that fundraising and construction will be complete by March 2015.

Some of the amenities of the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge Hawai‘i will include:

  • Nineteen guest rooms, each with a private bath and television
  • Fully equipped residential kitchen with a community dining room
  • Laundry rooms stocked with laundry and cleaning supplies
  • A resource library with an Internet computer station
  • Family recreation rooms with chairs, sofas and television
  • Outdoor patio area and healing garden
  • Exercise room with state-of-the-art equipment
  • Free wireless Internet access
  • Free parking
  • Free daily transportation to and from treatment centers
