New England's 2013 Fuller, Stone and Moloney Research Fellowships
The Alvan T. - Viola D. Fuller - American Cancer Society Junior Research Fellowships offer undergraduate students from New England an opportunity to participate in laboratory research with accomplished investigators, while The Betty Lea Stone - American Cancer Society Research Fellowships provide first-year medical students an opportunity to do basic cancer research. These summer research opportunities carry stipends of $4,500 and $5,000, respectively. In addition, the William C. Moloney, MD - American Cancer Society Research Fellowship provides summer research opportunities to first-year medical students enrolled at Boston University, Harvard, or Tufts medical schools. This fellowship is to be completed in hematology/oncology, and it carries a $5,000 stipend.
To apply, download the appropriate application instructions and application form. The application deadline for all three fellowships is Wednesday, January 23, 2013. Be sure to allow sufficient time prior to the deadline to prepare the application, which includes a transcript, two letters of recommendation, and project proposal. Selected candidates will be notified by late April 2013.
Fuller Fellowship Details
Upon selection, fellows are placed in labs at leading New England research institutions, such as teaching hospitals, universities, and medical schools, and given a $4,500 stipend. An essay of no more than 500 words is required.
Summer fellowships last a minimum of 10 weeks and are equivalent to full-time summer employment. The Fuller Committee, composed of senior scientists, chooses and places the Fellows.
Eligibility
- - Applicants must be permanent residents of New England (CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, or VT) and enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program anywhere in the country.
- - Seniors and juniors are eligible, and preference is given to those with advanced science/public health course work.
- - Lab skill and interest in research are prerequisites.
- - Minority students and students with American Cancer Society volunteer experience are encouraged to apply.

Stone Fellowship Details
Betty Lea Stone Fellowships provide first-year medical students with an opportunity to gain valuable experience in basic cancer research, with a stipend of $5,000.
The 10-week program is offered to first-year students attending a New England medical school.
Students must have been selected a faculty sponsor who will work with him/her to write a proposal for a summer research project.
Successful candidates assist with ongoing basic research programs at New England institutions.

- - Each candidate must submit copies of two letters of recommendation previously obtained for application to medical school.

The William C. Moloney, MD Research Fellowship Details
The William C. Moloney, MD Research Fellowship provides first-year medical students enrolled at Boston, Harvard or Tufts medical schoosl a chance to do summer research in the areas of hematology or oncology. The applicant's sponsor must be from Brigham & Women's Hospital, and the project must be completed at Brigham & Women's. Moloney applicants are eligible to apply for the Betty Lea Stone Fellowship, as well. This fellowship offers a $5,000 stipend.
