CPS-3 in the Philadelphia Metro Area

What if you could prevent even one family from hearing the words “you have cancer”?

This year, you can fight back against cancer by enrolling in the American Cancer Society’s new research study called the Cancer Preventions Study-3 (CPS-3). By joining CPS-3, you can help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer, which will ultimately save lives.

Join the movement for more birthdays. Enroll in CPS-3.

Who is eligible to participate in the study?

Anyone who:
  • Is between 30 and 65 years old
  • Has never been diagnosed with cancer (not including basal or squamous cell skin cancer)
  •  Is willing to make a long-term commitment to the study, which involves completing periodic follow-up surveys at home
What does study participation involve?

Enrollment is free and will take place at various locations throughout the metro Philadelphia area September 26 through October 3, 2013.

To schedule your appointment, scroll down and find the enrollment location most convenient for you and then click on Schedule an Appointment.
  • Read and sign an informed consent form
  • Complete a comprehensive survey packet that asks for information on lifestyle, behavioral and other factors related to your health
  • Have your waist circumference measured
  • Give a small blood sample (similar to a doctor’s visit- 7 teaspoons total). The blood sample will be drawn by trained, certified phlebotomists

Upon completion of these steps, we will send periodic follow-up surveys to update your information and an annual newsletter with study updates and results.

Call for CPS-3 Volunteers!
The Cancer Prevention Study-3 is looking for volunteers to help with day-of-enrollments at the four locations throughout the Philadelphia Metro area.  A brief training will be held to give details of volunteer roles. Thank you for your interest in helping with this groundbreaking research study. If you are interested in getting involved in one or more of our enrollment sites, please email Kate.Mastalski@cancer.org.

Would you like to be a CPS-3 Champion?

You may be a Survivor. A caregiver. Or, interested in honoring a friend or loved one. It does not matter how cancer has touched your life, you are invited to serve as a CPS-3 Champion. Our CHAMPIONS spread the word about CPS-3 to all areas of our community, encouraging people to enroll in the study. Help us take another step toward a world with more birthdays.
