North Carolina runner takes Relay to the North Pole
North Carolina oncologist Doug Thompson recently completed the North Pole Marathon, raising money and increasing visibility for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life®.
As an oncologist at Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Thompson knows all too well the resources necessary to finish the fight against cancer. So far, he’s raised just over $2,000, but is hoping to still raise at least $5,000. Donations can be made at relayforlife.org/burkeNC using the name North Pole Marathon. Your entire donation will go to the Society.
Thompson was the 2nd American to finish the marathon and was 15th overall. He posted on his Facebook page that it was the hardest marathon ever, but was an incredible adventure. The temperature for the marathon was -22 Fahrenheit.
