bisphosphonates

[bis-FAHS-fun-ates] drugs that slow down the action of bone-eating cells called osteoclasts, which helps slow the spread of cancer in the bones. Bisphosphonate drugs are commonly used in some types of cancer that have spread to the bones and in multiple myeloma (a type of bone cancer). They are also used to help treat osteoporosis (bone thinning) and some other conditions.
