pleurodesis

[plu-rah-dis-sis or plur-o-DEE-sis] injection of a chemical between the layers of the pleura (chest lining) that causes them to fuse to seal off leaks. This procedure helps prevent fluid or air from building up in the pleural cavity, the area in the chest outside the lungs. See also pleura.
