ulcerative colitis

[ul-suh-ruh-tiv kuh-lie-tis] a type of inflammatory bowel disease. In this condition, the colon is inflamed over a long period of time. This increases a person’s risk of developing colon cancer, so starting colorectal cancer screening earlier and doing these tests more often is recommended. See also colon, Crohn’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease.
