Program Details

The Ronald McDonald House provides low cost housing for medically needy children and their families. The Omaha Ronald McDonald House is near most area hospitals. The House includes family rooms, a large kitchen and dining area, a recreation room, a playroom, a laundry facility, a sun porch and ample parking.

Referrals to the Ronald McDonald House come from medical staff and hospital social workers. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Families are asked to pay $7.50 per day.

Cost / Fees:Suggests a donation of $10 per night per family. If possible, the first night’s donation is requested when the family checks in. This includes lodging, volunteer-prepared meals, laundry facilities and other services. If the family is Medicaid elgible, Medicaid will often cover your stay.
Eligibility:Families of seriously ill or injured children who are receiving treatment in an Omaha Area Hospital. The family must reside more than 25 miles from the House A social worker or medical staff member at the facility where the child is being treated must make the referral directly to the RMH. All adults staying in the House must present current photo identification at check-in. We cannot guarantee placement until the day of need, but we will place families on a waiting list if the House is at full occupancy. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Omaha reserves the right to verify the child’s treatment with the medical service provider. A family’s length of stay cannot exceed 15 months. The RMHC Board of Directors may grant an extension. The appeal will be considered if it is determined that the health issues of the patient will be resolved within a short time frame. The request for an extension must be written by the parents. This should be accompanied by a statement from the child’s primary physician indicating the estimated length of recovery. A family whose length of stay has expired may reapply for admission if such request is made after the family and patient has returned to their permanent residence and the patient has been released from the current medical situation by a physician.
