American Cancer Society B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge Hospitality House—Rochester, NY
About Our Facility
Welcome to the American Cancer Society B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge Hospitality House.
Getting the right care sometimes means having to travel far from home. Patients spend millions of dollars every year on overnight stays, adding to the financial strain of mounting medical bills and interrupted employment. The American Cancer Society B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge Hospitality House addresses these concerns with free or low-cost lodging for cancer, trauma and organ transplant patients and their caregiver, in a supportive environment.
While cancer centers and hospitals provide treatment for guests, Hope Lodge Hospitality House serves as an extension of the healing process. A variety of wellness and support programs are offered to all cancer, trauma, and transplant patients.
Potential Hope Lodge Hospitality House guests must be referred by their treatment center or hospital. Travel time and length of stay, along with other guidelines, determine if potential guests are eligible for Hope Lodge Hospitality House services.
American Cancer Society donations cover the cost for people with cancer. Organ transplant, trauma and other patients pay a nominal fee.
Hope Lodge Hospitality House offers:
• 30 guest rooms with private bathrooms, ample closet space, cable TV with DVD player and wireless internet access

To stay at the Hope Lodge, you must be referred by your medical center's social worker. Your social worker will need to fill out a referral form to coordinate placing your name on our waiting list. It is advisable to initiate the referral process well in advance of the first date of treatment, as patients are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Once the referral form is received at Hope Lodge, the potential guest will be contacted regarding their status.
Recognizing the increased need for affordable housing for cancer patients seeking treatment in the Rochester area, the American Cancer Society purchased the former Holy Angels convent and school for girls, and converted the complex into American Cancer Society offices and an eleven room Hope Lodge. Hope Lodge opened its doors in 1980, becoming the second of its kind in the nation; the first to offer overnight accommodations.
In June 2008, the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, the University of Rochester Medical Center, and the American Cancer Society announced an innovative partnership to meet an urgent regional and community need. It would increase available services to meet a growing and ongoing demand by providing free lodging to cancer patients and low-cost lodging to organ transplant patients receiving lifesaving treatment from hospitals in the Rochester area.
Thanks to a generous $4 million gift by B. Thomas Golisano, the American Cancer Society B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge Hospitality House became a reality and opened its doors to the first guests in June 2010. While all three organizations benefit from the synergy of this project, the clear winners are the patients and families that will be served in times of crisis.
The staff at Hope Lodge Hospitality House is a dedicated group who are committed to provide a caring and supportive environment for our guests and their loved ones. We are here to make your stay as comfortable as possible, so please do not hesitate to ask for our assistance.
