Staying With Us
Hope Lodge services are for children – infants to age 21 – receiving cancer treatment in Puerto Rico. Patients must be accompanied by one adult family member responsible for the patient’s primary needs. Parents or guardians should bring photo identification.
Each guest must bring a referral from the oncologist certifying the cancer diagnosis. The social worker at the hospital must refer the patient to stay in our facilities.
Upon arrival, every family goes through an orientation session. Parents must sign an agreement indicating they understand and agree to follow all Hope Lodge policies. To ensure the well-being and health of our patients and caregivers, guests being treated for the following conditions are not eligible to stay at the Hope Lodge:
- Escherichia coli (E.Coli)
- Hepatitis A
- Skin Infections
- Throat Infections
The Hope Lodge supplies sheets, pillows and towels for our guests. Each family must provide clothing, personal articles, medicines and photo identification.
The Niños Que Quieren Sonreír Hope Lodge is a short-term residential facility designed to offer housing and support free of charge to any pediatric cancer patient who travels to the San Juan area for treatment. The Hope Lodge is not a treatment facility and does not provide medical care.
The Niños Que Quieren Sonreír Hope Lodge offers several support opportunities for children and families. On the second Tuesday of each month, parents and caregivers are invited to a support session with our psychologist in our Activity Room. On the third Tuesday of each month, we host art therapy for children with cancer. Art therapy is hosted by our psychologist.
