Pap test, also called a Pap smear



a test in which cells are scraped from a woman’s cervix and looked at under a microscope to see if abnormal cells are present. Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is often done at the same time, and a pelvic examination is usually done as well, but these are not part of the Pap test.
