MaryLisabeth Rich

Senior Vice President, Development

MaryLisabeth Rich serves as Senior Vice President, Development for the American Cancer Society. MaryLisabeth, (or MaryLis as her ACS family calls her) is responsible for leading and implementing the organization’s development strategy related to campaign planning, planned giving, and principal opportunities and partnerships. In addition, she directs key enterprise opportunities that align with the Society’s mission priorities including: Research, Cancer Control, Global, and Innovation projects.

MaryLis has been in non-profit leadership for more than 25 years with two career stints at ACS. During her first stint from 1998-2009, she served in multiple nationwide income leadership roles including chief operating officer and vice president of the Planned Giving Business Unit (1998-2003), which is the foundation for the Society’s current PG operational model. In addition, she served in a leadership capacity with the former ACS Foundation (2003-2009) to drive restricted giving to the organization through relationship-based fundraising. Most recently (2015-2019), MaryLis led the work of the Principal Partnerships team, charged with cultivating individual giving opportunities for high-end donors and family foundations including many of the American Cancer Society’s campaigns, specifically Hope Lodge.

Prior to joining the American Cancer Society in 1998, she spent nine years in Higher Education Philanthropy, playing an integral part in three capital campaigns totaling $600 million including Florida State University, High Point University and her alma mater North Carolina State University. And, in between her years at ACS, MaryLis was the executive director for Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), where she worked closely with member companies and interested external partners to shape investment in pre-competitive research and talent, to direct funding, and to work closely with industry investors to increase the technology and engineering talent ecosystem that supports the next generation of scientists and engineers.
