Become a Champion

Champions are special friends of the American Cancer Society who have chosen to change the lives of people with cancer by including a gift to the Society in their will or estate plan. These special gifts take many forms, but they all represent hope for cancer patients and their loved ones. Champions share a common goal to save lives and create a world with more birthdays by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and fighting back against cancer. Champions come from all walks of life. Some are cancer survivors. Many have lost loved ones to the disease. All understand the devastating impact cancer has and want to help change it.

How Champions Make a Difference

We chose the name “Champions” for this special group of friends because it is synonymous with winning. And with the help of our Champions, we are winning the war against cancer every day.For more than 60 years, the American Cancer Society has led the way in cancer research. Since 1946, we have devoted more than $3.4 billion to cancer research, and the investment continues to pay rich dividends.
Over the past 30 years, the number of cancer survivors has tripled. With the help of our supporters, the American Cancer Society has funded groundbreaking research resulting in many important discoveries and a better understanding of cancer and cancer treatment. Together, we are saving lives.

Why We Need You

The need is still great. In the US, men have almost a one in two chance of developing cancer during their lifetime. For women, the risk is a little more than one in three. They are counting on us – and you – to help them beat the disease. On behalf of everyone who is – and those who will be – affected by cancer, we ask you to consider joining the Society of Champions. It’s easy, and it doesn’t even have to involve writing a check.

By becoming a Champion, you make an important decision to include a future gift to the American Cancer Society in your financial or estate plans. You establish a personal legacy that impacts the lives of those coping with cancer and you will receive lasting rewards for many years to come. You don’t have to be wealthy to become a Champion. There are gift arrangements tailored to fit most any financial circumstance. Some gifts –the charitable gift annuity, for example– even offer you financial benefits in return. Many gift arrangements also provide significant tax benefits.

How to Become a Champion

Becoming a Champion is easy. One of the most popular and simple gift options to become a Champion is through a gift to the American Cancer Society in your will – also known as a bequest. Other gift options can provide you current and future financial benefits, such as a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust. We have specially-trained estate planning professionals who can assist you in selecting the gift option that may be best for your circumstances.
