Get Involved and Deepen Your Volunteer Commitment

I truly believe that as volunteers and staff of the American Cancer Society, we are advocates for all mankind: There is no greater honor.
- Kaz Iwamoto, Society volunteer

As a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, you give meaning to this message. The essence of the American Cancer Society is volunteers like you, people who give of themselves and their time to offer comfort and hope to countless Californians, and those touched by cancer across the country. Priority Volunteer Opportunities

Advocacy Volunteer
Use your voice and vote to advocate for new laws to help cancer patients and fight cancer. Contact your legislators, help at Relay For Life events, work on campaigns, or recruit and train others. Your voice - through faxes, emails, phone calls, and letters - and your leadership can influence elected officials and get others involved at the grassroots level. Being a California Volunteer Legislative Ambassador is a wonderful opportunity to lend your voice - and the voice of your community to the fight against cancer.  (No previous legislative experience necessary).

Office Volunteer
Partners with staff to support the administrative, event and program functions in American Cancer Society community offices. Greet public, serve as receptionist, answer phones, data entry, word processing, general office work. Assist with processing donations and record keeping, meeting preparation, and preparing mailings.

Road to Recovery Drivers
Volunteer drivers in the Road to Recovery program help patients get to the lifesaving treatment they need. Volunteer drivers donate their time and vehicles to take patients to treatment appointments and return them to their homes. They also provide encouragement and support. A volunteer driver needs a safe and reliable vehicle, current valid California driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance and a good driving record.  Drivers participate in one of the monthly training calls and drive fewer than four hours a day each week.
