Arbella Insurance Foundation Awards $50,000 to the American Cancer Society
The Arbella Insurance Foundation has awarded a grant of $50,000 to the American Cancer Society as part of its “50 to 25” program, which presented one-time grants of $50,000 to 25 local charities throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. “50 to 25” was created in recognition of the Arbella Insurance Group’s 25th anniversary and the important role the Foundation plays in supporting the communities Arbella serves.
“We’re proud to be celebrating Arbella’s 25th anniversary this year,” said John Donohue, chairman, president and CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group and chairman and president of the Arbella Insurance Foundation. “In recognition of that milestone and the important role Arbella’s Foundation plays in supporting our communities, we wanted to do something that would have a real impact in our communities. I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate Arbella’s 25 years of serving New England than to recognize the charities that are helping to make this region thrive.”
Cara Bauer, Director, Distinguished Giving, and Bryan Harter, Senior Director, Hope Lodge Program, attended the celebratory luncheon on September 10, 2013, in Quincy, and accepted the check on behalf of the American Cancer Society.
The grant money will help complete the capital costs associated with the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center in Boston. In November 2008, the Hope Lodge opened its doors, given the demand for the services the Lodge provides to cancer patients and their caregivers, even though $5 million was still needed to fulfill the capital campaign costs for the building. The grant will help bring the Society one step closer to completing the capital campaign. Annual events, such as the Key Gala and the Hope Lodge Boston Invitational, raise dollars for the operating costs of the Hope Lodge for years to come.
The Foundation’s Selection Committee chose the 25 recipient charities from proposals thoughtfully submitted by Arbella employees, independent insurance agents, and longtime charitable partners. Beverly Tangvik, director of the Arbella Insurance Foundation, and longtime Society volunteer and Corporate Council Member for the Key Gala, submitted the nomination for the Hope Lodge. “It’s gratifying to see how much the grants mean to these charities,” said Beverly. “They’re doing wonderful work to make a difference and improve the lives of those in need. We are so proud to support the important contributions these charitable organizations are making to our communities.”
