Helpful Information for Your Stay
Hope Lodge supplies all the cleaning equipment and cleaning supplies. Please check at the reception area or with the Lodge Manager if you cannot find what you need. Guests are expected to clean and disinfect their room prior to checking out, or pay a $30.00 cleaning fee.
The Charleston Hope Lodge is located in the heart of one of the most historic cities in the United States. On Wednesday nights, Babbie Mangum, our volunteer concierge offers advice and free passes to local attractions to our guests. A few of our current free offerings include: The SC Aquarium, the Gibbes Art Museum, Magnolia Plantation, Riverdogs Baseball tickets, Charleston Museum, The Old Exchange Building, and seasonally for the Spoleto arts festival.
First Aid Kit
A basic first aid kit is located in the downstairs volunteer area. Please ask a manager or volunteer to assist you with this. Guests who have a serious medical emergency are asked to call 911, and then the manager on duty.
Mail and Messages
Incoming mail and messages will be left at the reception area. Outgoing mail may also be left at the reception desk for daily mailing. The mail is delivered each day between 2 and 5 p.m.
Parking is available only at local treatment centers. It is free for guests with a handicap placard, and costs $6 per day for all other guests. A validation stamp from guests’ doctor’s offices may reduce this rate. Please ask your treatment team for more details.
A Rite Aid Pharmacy is located directly beside the Hope Lodge at 261 Calhoun Street. The telephone number is 843-305-6022. They also offer sundries and a small selection of groceries.
There is a volunteer receptionist on duty to handle incoming calls from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. An automated system is available during other hours. Please be sure to provide your family and friends with your direct extension so that they may be able to reach you at all times. Local outgoing calls may be made any time from your room. Outgoing calls (from your room) may be made by credit/calling card. No collect calls will be accepted.
The Hope Lodge offers guests easy access to all their shopping needs. There are several grocery stores within a short drive of the Hope Lodge. Publix, Harris Teeter, Piggly Wiggly, and Food Lion are all within three miles. The historic King Street Shopping district is less than a mile from the Lodge. Malls and other shops are within a seven mile drive. Directions are provided upon arrival.
Transportation is available through the patients' treatment center.
For MUSC, Rutledge Tower, Hollings Cancer Center and the VA Hospital call 792-4196 twenty minutes prior to your need for a ride. . For Roper Hospital, please set this up with your nurse and/or social worker at least one business day in advance.
Residency at a Hope Lodge facility is a courtesy extended at the sole discretion of American Cancer Society. All individuals who meet the Hope Lodge eligibility requirements will be welcomed regardless of race, creed, citizenship, physical disability, gender, color, ethnic heritage, veteran status, economic status, or sexual orientation.
