In 2012, the tournament received one of the largest sponsorships for any golf tournament, $650,000.

Mark also oversaw the all-volunteer Discovery Shop at Smith Mountain Lake which is now one of the most successful shops for ACS. It has raised over 2.5 million dollars in its 10-year history.  In 2015, Mark worked with BK Racing and Mystik Lubricants to underwrite the first American Cancer Society car in a NASCAR race at the Martinsville Speedway. The purpose of the car was to raise awareness to a national audience about the importance of colon cancer screening.

Before entering the non- profit world, Mark was in the restaurant business and owned an award winning restaurant in Roanoke from 1994-2000. It was there that Mark met his wife Joan.

Mark, who earned his BA degree from Roanoke College, lives in Roanoke with Joan and their pets. He enjoys golf, family ancestry and reading about American presidents.
