John A. Johns

John has worked in Development for the past 15 years and his experience includes Workplace Giving Campaigns, Capital Campaign Management, Major and Planned Giving and Special Projects.
Previously, John worked for the United Way and Community Counseling Service. He spent the last 13 years at California State University, Los Angeles where he initiated the Planned Giving Program, cultivated and solicited the first million dollar gift to the university, developed the funding to support a scholarship for every undergraduate student in the School of Nursing, and created the first privately funded capital project in sustainable energy in higher education with the construction of a $4.6 million hydrogen production and research facility on the campus.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area and a lifelong diehard Giants fan, his first position after college was actually as the General Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers' minor league affiliate in Lodi, CA where prior to the outbreak of Fernando Mania he met Fernando Valenzuela.
A graduate of the University of Oregon, since the mid-1980s, John has traveled the world visiting 50 countries mostly in the developing world. He has a passion for human rights and has served on several human rights delegations to Latin America.
