Senior Director of Major Gifts

Karen Iglesias joined the American Cancer Society as Senior Director for Distinguished Events over 2 years ago.  During that time Karen worked with an impressive team to grow the Great West’s Distinguished Events income significantly.  The team successfully increased RMG income by 500% and developed a new event model, Construction vs. Cancer, to attract all new income.

 Prior to joining ACS, as a Major Gifts Officer, Karen worked in the United Kingdom and the United States developing capital campaigns in healthcare and human services amounting to $100M over two decades.  At the same time, her development experience encompasses building special events, Board recruitment/development, major gifts and planned giving.

 In her previous role as President/CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada, Karen, and her team won national awards for the largest increase in income and the largest increase in wish granting.  Karen’s leadership helped to grant more than 1,000 wishes in Nevada for children fighting life-threatening medical conditions.

When Karen’s mother and sister were diagnosed with breast cancer, she commuted back and forth to the United Kingdom to support them through their treatment.  “At that time granting wishes was not enough.  Parents receiving devastating cancer diagnosis would ask ‘can you help me save my child?’ and after six years of making wishes come true, I plotted a course to work for ACS.” 

Karen and her husband Joe live in Las Vegas, close to their eldest son Ciro. Their blended family of four children and six grandchildren live in California and Colorado.  When not working, Karen and Joe enjoy skiing, motor car racing and
